March 11, 2026 - Wednesday - We headed south today to the Diamond Valley Lake district of Hemet to visit the Western Science Center (WSC). Their latest exhibit is called "Whirling & Churning: How the Ocean Melts an Alaskan Glacier." Leconte Glacier in Alaska is the southernmost tidewater glacier in the Northern hemisphere, and is a perfect living laboratory for understanding how oceans melt glaciers. This exhibit is about a scientific expedition aboard the R/V Steadfast and the scientists who are learning about our changing ecosystems.
There were many instruments on display, the one below measures and records temperatures and ocean currents.
Before leaving the Center, we walked through the permanent gallery to see the dinosaurs.
After the WSC we headed over to have lunch at Dattilo Ristoránte Italiano.
I had their "Lasagna Al Forno" which is oven baked layers of fettuccine, ricotta cheese, meatballs, mozzarella cheese and Italian sausage.
Judy had their "Margherita Pizza" with fresh tomatoes, basil, cheese, and olive oil.
We had leftovers for lunch tomorrow.
