November 5, 2025 - Wednesday - Today we were in Claremont, CA to visit the Ruth Chandler Williamson Gallery, on the campus of Scripps College. Their current exhibit is called "Pintor de Poemas: Unseen Works by Alfredo Ramos Martínez." Alfredo Ramos Martínez (1871–1946) was a painter, muralist, and educator, who lived and worked in Mexico, Paris, and Los Angeles. Considered by many to be the "Father of Mexican Modernism," Ramos Martínez is best known for his serene and empathetic paintings of traditional Mexican people and scenes. The exhibition takes its title from an early description of Ramos Martínez as “one of those who paints poems.”
Everything was powerful and some of the works were in a monumental scale. It's modern and also timeless.
Before the gallery we had lunch at The Hat in Upland.
Judy had their BBQ Roast Beef sandwich with pickles and a pink lemonade.
I had their famous pastrami dipped sandwich with pickles and a pink lemonade.
And before everything, we stopped at the Crčme Bakery in Claremont. We were picking up a treat for one of our friends who is celebrating her birthday today.
It's a small store and it was packed with customers. We picked up a cheese Danish and an almond croissant for the birthday girl and her partner, and we got the same two for ourselves.
