November 6, 2024 - Wednesday - Today we were in San Bernardino to see the latest exhibit at the Robert and Frances Fullerton Museum of Art located on the campus of California State University. It's called "Korean Craft: Yesterday and Today" and it provides a view of Korean craft tradition from the 4th century to the present day. The over forty objects on view include traditional uniforms, ceramics, furniture, and paintings as well as contemporary ceramics, textiles, lacquer ware, and new media artwork.
A small gallery displayed pieces from the museum's own collection.
The main gallery displays pieces on loan from the Sookmyung Women's University Museum in Seoul, South Korea.
This piece is "vegetable tanned leather."
There is a fascinating video playing in the main gallery.

Below is a "Sun Bowl." It is off center on the black tray to symbolize its shadow.
On the opposite side of the room is a "Moon Bowl." Koreans like to see both celestial bodies together.
This is another "vegetable tanned leather."
The exhibit is beautiful with many interesting pieces.
After the exhibit, we headed over to Highland, CA to have lunch at the Bear Springs Bistro & Lounge.
We started out with "Loaded Yucca Chips" which are crispy fried yucca chips topped with house made blue cheese dressing, pickled shallots, chopped bacon, blue cheese crumbles, fresh cracked pepper and micro basil.
Judy chose their "Buffalo Chicken Flatbread" with grilled chicken tossed in buffalo sauce topped with mozzarella, carrots, blue cheese crumbles, bacon, and micro celery.
I was adventurous today and tried something new on their menu. The "Prosciutto Shrimp and Scallops" is pan-seared scallops and shrimp served with crispy prosciutto, grilled asparagus, garlic herb rice, garlic cream and pistachio pesto.
Everything was yummy, so it was a good way to end a nice day. |
