September 22, 2024 - Sunday - Today we were in Palm Springs to see the latest exhibits at the Palm Springs Art Museum. We stayed away this past summer because of the heat, one day it was 121° here, so we were hoping that it cooled down.
"Meditations in Glass" is a selection from the museum’s permanent collection, mixing pieces by well-known contemporary artists and designers, both those who work in glass occasionally and artists whose careers have focused on the medium.
The "Ghost Chair" below is a one piece technical marvel.
The "House" below is constructed of bottles, vials and stemware.
The exhibit is small and we didn't care for some of the pieces, but overall it was okay.
The second exhibit we saw is called "Eagles, Snakes and Shifting Sands," a wonderful exhibit of Native American art.
The tortoise pattern on the basket cover in the lower left is unusual.
The rug below is Navajo in the Two Grey Hills style.
The museum has a new acquisition, the Aluminaire House, designed by A. Lawrence Kocher and Albert Frey in 1931. It was originally built in New York City and it moved around the New York metropolitan area for years and this is now its new home.
Before the museum we had brunch at Farm.
I had their "Eggs Florentine" with two poached eggs, tomato, sautéed spinach, multi grain bread, Hollandaise, mixed greens and a sherry vinaigrette.
Judy had their "Citron et Fraises Crepe" with lemon butter, sugar and strawberries.
It was a wonderful day and we got out of there when it was still in the eighties. |
