July 5, 2025 - Saturday - Today we were in Claremont, CA to see the Petterson Museum of Intercultural Art. The Museum is located on the 32 acre campus of Pilgrim Place, a cultural and religious community founded in 1915 for those who have had careers in religious or charitable non-profit organizations. Their current exhibit is called "The Lives of Women: An Intercultural Perspective." This exhibit centers on the artifacts that speak to women's labor, social roles, and significance as subjects in art. It is a celebration of the lives and legacies of women everywhere.
The next two photographs are of Tapa Bark Cloth, made in Samoa.
This is a pounder that breaks down the bark into a fabric.
A tribute to Richard Petterson, the founder of the museum.
A beautiful table hand carved in China.
A ceremonial Palestinian robe.
A Chinese wedding skirt.
Notice the Chinese shoes for women with bound feet.
A "Friendship Quilt." Individual women created the panels that were then assembled into one quilt.
Each woman signed her panel. I think this one was created by Rebecca.
Thank you Mr. Petterson.
After the museum, we had lunch at our Claremont favorite, Aruffo's Italian Cuisine.
This is the complimentary bread, with their own sauce.
We both had the same entrée since it's so good. We had their "Bucatini Carbonara" with classic custard cream sauce, pecorino, capocollo, cracked peppercorns, and fresh bucatini pasta.
