July 19, 2022 - Tuesday - Today we headed east into the mile high foothills of the San Bernardino Mountains. Our destination was the Wildlands Conservancy's Oak Glen Preserve. The 909 acre preserve is nestled in a glen at an elevation of 5,024 feet and is in the shadow of the 8,700 foot Wilshire Peak. This adventure was a diversion for us since SoCal Electric scheduled a power outage for "routine maintenance" in our area. It ended up a routine disaster because our power was out from 8:47 AM on Tuesday through 1:12 AM on Wednesday.
These are ripening blackberries.
The shaded picnic tables are a nice feature.
It's a beautiful place to hike, especially through the "Wetlands Boardwalk."
After the preserve, we had planned to stop for lunch at a local Yucaipa favorite, The Fat Greek. However, much to our disappointment, it was closed. We ended up eating at another local restaurant but the food wasn't worthy of a spot on this page. Sometimes somethings don't work out as planned. |
