December 18, 2025 - Thursday - Today we were in Pasadena, CA to see the new exhibit at the Norton Simon Museum called "Gold: Enduring Power, Sacred Craft." This exhibition explores the artistic and cultural function of gold in approximately 60 works of art drawn from across the collections of the Norton Simon Museum, which encompass South and Southeast Asia, Europe, North Africa and North America. Probably a lot of you will see the museum on New Year's Day for the Rose Parade.
The grandstands are directly across Colorado Boulevard, and the museum will have a big "Rose Parade" banner on it.
There are displays showing gold leaf, gold wire and gold thread.
There are several tapestries utilizing gold thread.
Examples of fancy gold jewelry are also on display.
This is one page of a hand painted religious manuscript with gold leaf. It's a fascinating exhibit.
Before the museum we stopped for some fish and chips at Lucky Baldwin's Pub.
Judy had their famous fish and chips that are superb.
I had the same thing with two pieces of fish.
Unfortunately they've changed their hours and don't start lunch until noon, so we might have to find a new place that opens earlier.
