April 7, 2022 - Thursday - We were back in Los Angeles today to see a new exhibit at LACMA, called "City of Cinema: Paris 1850–1907." Placing cinema in the context of 19th-century Parisian visual culture, City of Cinema: Paris 1850–1907 explores how film emerged amid a wave of social, political, artistic, and technological developments. City of Cinema reveals how citizens became spectators, and how film evolved from novel entertainment to the greatest art form of the 20th century.
The actual films made during this period were the highlight of this exhibit for us. Dozens of films were represented, all being continuously screened.
The exhibit was nice but it needed to be grouped a little better. LACMA is like an industrial museum with big box rooms and very high ceilings. Small and quaint it's not.
Before the museum we stopped in Hollywood for lunch at Pink's. The first time we came here Judy selected the Huell Howser Dog for herself, while I tried a couple of fancier dogs. But, on reflection, I saw the wisdom in her choice. The Huell has two hot dogs in one bun, mustard, chili, cheese, and onions. Two dogs, half the bread, delicious!
