August 26, 2026 - Wednesday - Today we were in Hollywood, CA to visit the JAPAN HOUSE Los Angeles. JAPAN HOUSE is a worldwide project with three hubs; London, Los Angeles and São Paulo. It was conceived by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan to nurture a deeper understanding of Japan in the international community. Their current exhibit is called “WASHOKU | Nature and Culture in Japanese Cuisine.”
Everyone is familiar with Bento Boxes, but we didn't know they were for transporting food. The big case on the right holds four Bento Boxes with two beverage bottles. It's a nice way to have picnic for four.
There is a nice display of the cooking utensils created by the Japanese.
It is an informative exhibit that is beautifully displayed.
Before we toured JAPAN HOUSE we had lunch at Johnny Rockets. While the chain has restaurants around the country, we had never been in one. It has a 1950s diner feel to it.
Judy had a grilled cheddar cheese sandwich on sourdough.
She also had a chocolate malt.
I had their "Rocket Single" that was very tasty.
