September 3, 2025 - Wednesday - Today we were in Orange, CA to see several new exhibits at the Hilbert Museum of California Art. The first exhibit is called "Pastel Society of the West Coast: 99 Voices in Pastel." Founded in 1984 by Margot Schulzke with the encouragement of fellow artist Albert Handell, the Pastel Society of the West Coast (PSWC) has grown to become the second-largest pastel society in the United States, with nearly 700 members.
The second exhibit we saw is called "57th Watercolor West International Juried Exhibition." Founded in 1967 under the guidance of famed California watercolorist Milford Zornes, Watercolor West is dedicated to the tradition of transparent watercolor.
On reflection, it might be better to see the watercolors first, since their muted colors looked a little dull compared to the vivid pastels.
Before the museum, we stopped for some chicken and waffles at Bruxie.
I had the delicious chicken and waffle dish.
Judy skipped the chicken but had strawberries instead.
