May 28, 2025 - Wednesday - Today we were in Orange, CA to see several new exhibits at the Hilbert Museum of California Art.
The first exhibit that we saw was "Sunlight and Shadows: Emil Kosa Jr." Emil Kosa Jr. (November 28, 1903 – November 4, 1968) was an American artist of Czech origin. He was the art director of 20th Century Pictures' special effects department for more than three decades, winning an Academy Award for Best Visual Effects along the way. He's one of our favorites.
This is a self portrait of Emil.
The second exhibit is called "California's Golden Coast."
There was also a small exhibit called "The Los Angeles River: An Unexpected Beauty" by John Kosta. His work is also very dramatic in his use of sunlight and shadow.
It was a lot to take in, but we loved it.
Before the exhibits we stopped for brunch at the Zinc Cafe, also located in Orange.
Judy had their "Fried Egg Sandwich" with two fried eggs, herb cream cheese, cucumber, tomato, pickled onions, and arugula on a brioche bun.
I had their "French Toast" with brioche French toast, orange cinnamon butter, pecans and maple syrup.
