November 30, 2024 - Saturday - Today we were back in Glendale, CA to visit our favorite museum in a cemetery, the Forest Lawn Museum.  Their latest exhibit is “Narcissus Quagliata: Archetypes and Visions in Light and Glass.”  Quagliata is an Italian artist who is among the most influential figures in art glass in the past 50 years.  The exhibition features artworks that span more than five decades.

The self portrait on the left is a watercolor and the one on the right is in glass.

This one is called "The Bench."

This is the back of the screen showing the lead.

Most of his work employs painted leaded glass and fused glass.

His most famous work is in Taiwan.  The Dome of Light: Wind, Fire, and Time is the largest illuminated glass art dome in the world, measuring 100 feet in diameter.  A replica is shown in the semicircular drawing below.

This a drawing of the entire Dome of Light piece.

And this is a photograph of the actual installation.

Below are two portions on a mural salvaged from the city of Oakland.

This exhibit is as dazzling as the surroundings are beautiful.

After the museum we headed over to La Bella Pinseria Romana for lunch.

We ordered two pizzas and the first was "Prosciutto Di Parma," which is mozzarella, prosciutto, arugula, Burrata, and EVOO.

Each oblong pie was cut into eight pieces and they're easy to eat.  The second pizza was "Burrata," which is Burrata cheese, San Marzano tomato sauce , Grana Padano, Calabrian chilies, arugula, and oregano.  Those Calabrian chilies were hot and spicy, both pizzas were delicious.
