July 10, 2024 - Wednesday - Today we drove to the Cerritos Millennium Library, the public library in the city of Cerritos, CA. Originally built in 1973, it was rededicated on March 16, 2002. It was the first building to feature an exterior clad with titanium panels in the United States. It is also the first "Experience Library" and focuses on themed spaces, high quality artwork, and inspirational architecture.
The lobby is stunning, especially with its 15,000 gallon salt water aquarium.
The Children's Library is totally exciting, and busy.
Also off the main lobby is the Reading Room, an old world university library replica.
It looks like a nice place for a little siesta.
The balance of the first floor houses magazines, newspapers, paperbacks and Internet stations.
The lower level is the young adult area and multimedia inventory.
The mezzanine has fiction and languages in a wonderful art deco theme.
The second story houses non-fiction and reference materials, in a 21st century theme.
The lobby looks very impressive from the second floor.
Frankly, we have never seen anything like it. It's a functioning work of art.
Since the library doesn't open until 11:00 AM, we had an early lunch before the library at Polly's Pies.
Judy had their fish and chips that were cooked perfectly.
I had a penne dish with Italian sausages and peppers.
We couldn't leave until we had some pie, so we split one slice of chocolate cream pie.
The food was great and we look forward to coming back.
