August 2, 2024 - Friday - We were in Claremont, CA today to see the latest exhibit at the Claremont Lewis Museum of Art called "The Great Perfection: Charles Long & Khang Bao Nguyen." The museum states "The Great Perfection explores two artists’ diverse approaches to the aesthetic expression of nondual consciousness. In a world that seems more fractured and disconnected than ever, cast sculptures by Charles Long juxtaposed with abstract paintings by Khang Bao Nguyen lead the viewer to consider the underlying oneness of all beings." Whatever that means.
Although both the sculptures and the paintings were very abstract, we liked the paintings, but we didn't care that much for the sculptures.
The pictures make the paintings look more three dimensional than they looked at the museum.
The exhibit is very different, and the paintings really capture your eye.
Before the museum we had lunch at Aruffo's Italian Cuisine.
Their homemade bread is a wonderful appetizer.
We both had the same entrées, "Bucatini Carbonara" which has a classic custard cream sauce, pecorino, capocollo, cracked peppercorns, and fresh bucatini pasta.
Even though they have wonderful desserts here, we're always too full to indulge. Everything was delicious! |
