August 24, 2023 - Thursday - Today we were back in Santa Ana, CA to visit the Bowers Museum.  The museum has partnered with the California Art Club to present the 112th Annual Gold Medal Exhibition.  The California Art Club was founded in 1909 by the early California Impressionists, including many artists who were also actively involved with the Laguna Art Colony from 1918 to 1935.  Today, the organization continues its dedication to furthering classical techniques in painting and sculpting and encouraging their use in contemporary interpretations.

This one is called "The Collector."

This one is called "Bread and Fruit."

This one is called "Dog Tired."

This one is called something like cup of lemons, the title was in French, but the still life is wonderful.

There is another exhibit at the museum that we also took in.  Ubuhle Women: Beadwork and the Art of Independence showcases a new form of bead art, the ndwango, developed by a community of women living and working together in rural KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.

There are tens of thousands of beads hand sown into each piece.

Before the exhibit we had brunch at Norm's.

Judy had their "SoCal Breakfast."

I went for their "Bigger, Better Breakfast."
