November 14, 2025 - Friday - Today we were back in Pomona, CA to visit AMOCA, the American Museum of Ceramic Art. One of their current exhibits is called "In Their Hands: The Evolution of Mata Ortiz Pottery." From ancient shards scattered across the desert floor to masterful contemporary vessels this exhibit traces the remarkable development of Mata Ortiz pottery.
The one below was made somewhere around 1300 C.E.
The exhibit is small, but beautiful.
We also saw a very large exhibition called "Fired in Revolution: Ceramics from the People’s Republic of China." This exhibition explores Cultural Revolution ceramic production during the period from 1966 to 1976. The theme during this period was "everyone's happy, and everyone loves Mao."
Before the museum we tried a new place for lunch, Hen & Heifer Pomona.
Judy had "The Blues Burger" with a fresh ground premium patty, thick cut applewood smoked bacon and accompanied by crumbled blue cheese, caramelized onions, raw onions, tomato, pickles, and their house made ranch dressing all of it held together by soft brioche buns. It was huge!
I had "The Roy Boy" which is a fresh ground premium burger patty with two slices of cheese, fried onion rings, Cattleman's BBQ sauce, and their special Tiger sauce with lettuce, tomato, and pickles.
Both burgers were very messy and very delicious.
