October 1, 2025 - Wednesday - Today we were in Palm Springs, CA to see the latest exhibit at the Agua Caliente Cultural Museum, called "Section 14 The Untold Story." Section 14 in Palm Springs holds deep historical, cultural, and political significance, it's not just a square mile of land, but a symbol of resilience, injustice, and renewal. Section 14 is part of the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians’ reservation, established by executive order in 1876. The land includes the sacred Agua Caliente Hot Mineral Spring, used for thousands of years for healing and ceremony.
The refrigerator shown makes a point of the awful system on conservatorship that the Indians lived under. If an Indian family wanted to buy a refrigerator, they had to make application to the conservator. If approved, they then had to go to court to get final approval for the purchase. The extra expenses doubled the retail price of the refrigerator.
The exhibit is powerful and well curated.
Before the museum, we had an early brunch at the Farm.
Judy had their "Citron & Strawberry Crepe" with lemon, butter and sugar. It was loaded with fresh strawberries.
I had their "Eggs Florentine" with two poached eggs, tomato, sautéed spinach, multi grain bread, Hollandaise, mixed greens and sherry vinaigrette.
It was all good!
