October 16, 2010 - Judy's very dear friend Maxine Steele has honored us with a visit this cool October weekend.  After giving Max a tour of Redlands, the three of us took the docent-led tour of the Kimberly Crest House & Gardens.  Kimberly Crest was originally built by Mrs. Cornelia A. Hill in 1897 and sold the property to Mr. and Mrs. J. Alfred Kimberly in 1905.  Mr. Kimberly was a founder and president of the enormously successful paper company, Kimberly-Clark.  Upon their deaths the property was conveyed to their daughter, Mary Kimberly Shirk, who lived in the home until her death in 1979.  All of the interior rooms are in their original condition as furnished by the "three ladies" of the house; Mrs. Hill, Mrs. Kimberly and Mrs. Shirk.

Kimberly Crest is listed in the National Register of Historic Places, in the list of the city of Redlands Historic Places and it is also a California State Historic Landmark No. 1019.

Two good "buds" in front of the administration building of the University of Redlands.
